“Black Bayou Vignettes” (2019) is a work of five short movements for brass trio (B-flat trumpet, French horn and trombone). My idea was to create short sketches that take on the character of their title. The names of each movement are in adverb form: “I. Madly, II. Sadly, III. Wildly, IV. Weirdly and V. Finally!”. These adverb titles were taken from a poem that I created in conjunction with this work.
Excellent recordings were done by the Black Bayou Brass on their album "Vignettes" and the Lantana Trio on their album "Crossing Barriers" (available on most music streaming services).
“Black Bayou Vignettes” was commissioned by a consortium led by Dr. Eric Siereveld, including the Black Bayou Brass (Univeristy of Louisiana at Monroe), Lantana Brass Trio (Univeristy of North Texas), and the Ark-La-Miss ITG Chapter.
